Overture maintains a highly professional, well maintained site. It pioneered the pay-per-click search engine model in 1997, after seeing a need for a more focused search engine.

For $199 Overture will write professional search listings for up to 100 relevant search terms if you sign up for the Fast Track service. If you choose this option it promises a 3 business day turn around. The self-serve option says you will be receiving targeted traffic in less than 5 business days.

Overture has a large distribution network that offers good coverage for advertisers with Premium listings. Premium listings being those ranked in the top 3. Those listings appear on MSN, Yahoo!, Lycos and Altavista. The top 10 listings appear throughout the InfoSpace network.

Overture has advertiser "features" such as Match Driver, Content Match, Click Index and Auto Bidding. You can read more about all of these in Overture's advertiser center.

Match Driver is a system whereby Overture automatically matches variations on keywords and phrases to the primary term. (Overture: When we say "primary term," we mean the common form of the word singular, non-punctuated, non-hyphenated, no noise words and spelled
correctly.) I can see this as being advantageous for few and disadvantageous for most.

Content Match is where your listings might appear on an information page within one of Overture's partners. For example, your music related site might appear with an article on the music industry on MSN. Advertisers can opt out of receiving this kind of traffic.

Overture offers the ability to automatically replenish your account when it is running low and also set a monthly budget limit. It also offers many different reporting options including information on search terms, url activity, financial and billing.

You can easily add and edit keywords at Overture, whether you are adding just a few or changing all of them. It also makes it easy to change your bid, showing what bids currently hold the top 5 positions for each of your keywords.

One of the best things about Overture is the amount of help that is available. As well as the very helpful Keyword Suggestion Tool, there is information and instructions on just about anything you can think of.

At Overture, you'll pay the highest prices because it has the most traffic. Other pay per click search engines are not going to bring you as much traffic, but they will cost significantly less.
